Summer Shaded Sniffaris
It is crucial to exercise caution when walking dogs in Summer. I have created a guideline below with three different temperature ranges to provide my clients direction for booking walks mid day between 10AM - 3PM. I have also adjusted my working hours from 8AM - 4:30PM. Weekend and holiday walks will be considered on a case by case basis and there will be a $15 surcharge. Please ensure to book only 1/2 hour "Shaded Sniffaris" mid day should temperatures rise above 24 degrees. I will do my very best to hydrate your dog with water at the beginning, middle and end of the walk. I will also seek out shade and take rest breaks under trees. We will still do enrichment games, but vigorous exercise will be kept to a minimum.

Safe Zone(Up to 20 Degrees)
This is a safe zone for most breeds in terms of heat sensitivity. Generally, most dogs can enjoy a comfortable walk in weather up to 20 degrees. It still should be mentioned that senior dogs and giant breeds are particularly sensitive at 20 degrees.

Cautious Zone(21-24 Degrees)
This is a range of temperatures to be mindful and cautious in especially for heat sensitive breeds like Bulldogs, Chow Chows, Frenchies, Pugs, and Boxers. It's also important to note that large dogs are at higher risk in temperatures above 20 degrees.

Danger Zone(25+ Degrees)
In temperatures 25 degrees and hotter pavement can be hot, there is increased risk of heat stress, burns, and heat stroke. Heat stroke in dogs is life threatening. Early signs include excessive panting, drooling, and bright red gums. As symptoms worsen, increased heart rate, hot to touch skin, lethargy, vomiting, diarrhea, disorientation, and or seizures. Please take your dog to the vet if you see any of these symptoms after a walk in the heat.

Get to Know Us
After eight years of owning an Irish Wolfhound, Celene, the founder of "Take Your Sniffs Dog Walking" discovered the importance of "sniffari" style walks. Dogs that live in the city are exposed to a lot more noise and stress and need enriched long leash walks to decompress. This style of dog walking is different in that you are tuning in to what direction your dog prefers and when they want to stop and smell the roses. It is not about getting the walk done, but about taking the walk sniff by sniff. The "sniffari" walk is mostly directed by the dog and should be leisurely and at the dog's pace. Celene is a positive reinforcement certified dog walker, has Pet First Aid and is licensed, insured and bonded. She is passionate about all things dog most notably behaviour and nutrition. Starting a dog walking business is something Celene has been wanting to do for a very long time. She feels it is important to educate clients about consistency and building a mutual relationship with your dog. As a result we only do drop-in bookings in the first month with all clients. This enables Celene more time to build rapport with her client's dogs on a regular basis and avoids a lot of unnecessary scheduling changes. Requests to walk an additional dog from the same household will be considered on a case by case basis.
